Meaning Of SUNNAH

The Sunnah has been defined by the scholars of the science of Hadîth as follows:
“A word spoken, or an act done, or a confirmation given by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam).”
“Confirmation” in this definition is termed in Arabic as Taqreer. What is meant by this term is like somebody said something, or acted in a particular manner, and his saying or act came to the knowledge of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and he either confirmed it in express words or remained silent without given any indication of disapproval. Such silence, being an implied approval of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) is also included in the term Sunnah.

As the Sunnah, with all its three kinds (saying, act and confirmation) relates to the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam), its true status in Islamic law cannot be ascertained without ascertaining the status of the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) himself.

Walima is sunnah

Walimah is sunnah. The holy Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said:
أولم ولو بشاة .
The practice of sunnah is very important for a Muslim.

Importance Of miswak

Sayyidina Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that Allah's Messenger(SAW) said, "Were it not that I might distress my ummah, I would order them to use the siwak at every prayer”.

Rinse Mouth After Drinking Milk

It is Sunnah to rinse mouth after drinking milk

Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the Prophet (SAW) drank milk and then asked for water and rinsed his mouth. He said, “It is greasy”.

Sunnah of drinking Water

How many times you drink per day? Do you realize even this small thing will make us getting rewards? Only by applying the sunnah on it! ~ The sum of the sunnahs would exceed twenty, and we should notice drinks include all sorts of soft or hot drinks.

1 ➲ Pronounce the Tasmiyah

"[بِسْمِ اللهِ] [In the Name of Allâh]

2 ➲ Handling the drink with the right hand

As the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allâh be upon him) said to the kid: " O young man, mention the name of Allâh, eat with your right" [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2022]

3 ➲ When drinking breath outside of vessel; and do not drink at all once, but rather take three breaths

As the Prophet (peace and blessing of Allâh be upon him) used to do [Aboo Daawood, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 3727]

4 ➲ Sit while Drinking

The Prophet (peace and blessing of Allâh be upon him) said: " Let not one of you drink standing" [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2026]

5 ➲ Say Tahmeed (Al-hamdu lillâh) after drinking

The Prophet (peace and blessing of Allâh be upon him) said: " Verily Allâh is pleased with the slave who eat his food and praises Him for it and he who drinks and praises Him for it" [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2734]

5 ➲ Say Tahmeed (Al-hamdu lillâh) after drinking

The Prophet (peace and blessing of Allâh be upon him) said: " Verily Allâh is pleased with the slave who eat his food and praises Him for it and he who drinks and praises Him for it" [Muslim, The Book of Drinks, Hadith 2734]">

THE MANNERS OF ATTENDING WEDDINGS

If invited, attend the celebration as if you have answered an invitation to a blessed occasion, and a delightful and acclaimed celebration, as the Prophet proclaimed you should. Dress appropriately, for the Prophet's companions used to dress properly at weddings. When initiating or sharing in discussions, make sure your conversation fits the happy occasion and does not include depressing and distasteful subject matter that could spoil the occasion. Muslims should be wise and considerate.
It is recommended that you congratulate the bride and bridegroom, by reciting the Hadith narrated by Abu Dawood and Al-Tirmidhi, and authenticated by Ibn Maja and Al-Hakim, whereby the Prophet (PBUH) said: 'May Allah bless your side and bless your counterpart and may Allah tie your union with virtue.' Do not use the commonly used phrase 'With comfort and children,' because this was the phrase used by the people of ignorance (Jahilia). The Prophet (PBUH) prohibited such a saying, and Allah, with His blessing, replaced it by the prayer of his Prophet (PBUH). Al-Bukhari reported that 'Ayisha (RA) said: 'When the Prophet (PBUH) married me, my mother led me into the house where women of Ansar were celebrating. They congratulated me with reward, blessing, and 'best of luck' wishes.
Islam permits women to celebrate a wedding by singing tasteful songs, accompanied by a drum beat. Such poems and songs should not promote lust, lewd desire, or portray physical beauty. Instead, they should sing delightful and decent songs to express their happiness with the marriage. Al-Bukhari reported that 'Ayisha (RA) said: 'A bride was led to her Ansar husband. The Prophet (PBUH) said: O Ayisha, did you not have merriment? The Ansar love fun.' He was referring to the singing and beating of drums.
Al-Hafiz ibn Hajar reported in his book Fath Al-Bari that 'Ayisha recalled that the Prophet (PBUH) asked 'Why did you not send with her [the bride] a singer girl to sing with a drum beat? I said, 'What?' He answered:

We are visiting you, we are visiting you
If you greet us, we'll greet you.
For your gold, bright and red, brought the bride to your farm
And it is your wheat, brown and tanned, that made your virgins' charm

Songs sung at weddings must be similar and have wholesome and seemly meanings. Songs of lust, passion and immorality should be avoided.

THE MANNERS OF DRINKING

Drinking manners are no less important. To start in the name of Allah is a must. Use your right hand to drink. Abo Dawood and Tirmizi related that Hafsa (RA) said 'the Prophet used his right hand for eating and drinking. He used his left for other things [such as personal hygiene].' Do not pour your drink down your throat in one gulp. Drink it in three sips. Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet said 'Do not drink like a camel. Drink twice or thrice. Say the name of Allah before drinking. Thank Allah after finishing.
Do not exhale in your glass. This will irritate others and will smudge the glass or the cup. Ibn Abbas reported that the Prophet forbade exhaling in a glass or puffing into it.
Do not drink directly from the jug or the container. Beside being unhygienic behaviour, others may want to drink after you who could be irritated. Abo Huraira narrated that the Prophet forbade drinking directly from the mouth of the sheepskin or the flask.

SUNNAT of cutting nails

Pairing ones nails is a sunnah of Nabi salallahu alayhi wasallam. The nails should be paired whenever the need arises. [i]

῾Allāmah Tahtāwi rahmatullah alayh (d.1231H) mentions that nails should be paired once a weak and preferably on a Friday. If one delays from pairing once a week (due to slow growth of nails or some other reason) then he should pair them once in fifteen days. Leaving the nails unpaired for more than forty days is a sin. [ii]

There is no sunnah of pairing the nails in a specific sequence or order. However, there are different opinions about what is the preferred sequence.

Imām Ghazāli rahmatullah alayh (d.505H) has preferred and expounded on a particular sequence for pairing nails in hisIhyā’ Ulūmid Dīn. He mentions that one should start pairing the nails from the Shahadah finger of the right hand and then move towards the right till the small finger. Then one should start with the small finger of left hand and move towards the thumb of the left hand. Finally one should finish pairing at one’s right thumb. [iii]

῾Allāmah Nawāwi rahmatullah alayh (d.676H) has mentioned in his Al Majmū῾Sharhul Muhadhibthat this view of Imām Ghazāli rehmatullah alayh is acceptable except for the part where he says that the right thumb should be delayed it the end. ῾Allāmah Nawāwi rahmatullah alayh says that pairing the right thumb before starting the left hand will fulfil the preference of “beginning (an action) with the right”. Mullah ῾Ali Qārī rahmatullah alayh (d.1014H) has thus conclusively mentioned in Mirqāt ul Mafatīh Sharah Mishkātil Masābīh that the preferred method is to start from the right index finger (Shahadah finger) to the right small finger then the right thumb. Thereafter, for left hand start from the small finger and ending towards the thumb. [v]

Pairing of the toe nails will be from the small right toe to the small left toe. [v]

With regards to specifying a particular day too, different opinions have been mentioned in the books. ῾Allāmah ibn Hajar rahmatullah alayh makes clarification of these views and mentions that the most appropriate view is that there is no reason to make any day specific for pairing ones nails. However, one may choose Jumu῾āh(Friday) to pair ones nails since most people reserve this day to clean themselves and beautify for the congregation. [vi]
